What it is
The Horstmann Z228 XL is a 28mm two-port motorised zone valve from the Zoneplus range. It regulates water flow to a heating zone using a Class F synchronous motor in a removable actuator, and returns to closed by spring when de-energised.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Valve stuck open or closed, so the zone won't heat or won't stop heating
- Motor humming but the valve not moving
- Actuator overheating or a smell of burning
- Manual override lever no longer returns the valve to closed
