What it is
The Gledhill XB342 is a 9 kW switch immersion heating element used in Gledhill Electramate and Gulfstream water heating appliances. It provides the electrical heating load that raises the stored water to temperature. The element is supplied as a service part for the Electramate 2000, Electramate A-Class and Gulfstream 2000 ranges.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder even though the programmer and controls are calling for heat
- The element trips the RCD or circuit breaker when it is energised
- A continuity or resistance test across the element shows an open circuit
- Visible corrosion, blistering or heavy scale on the element head or sheath
- Water heating is slow or inconsistent compared with the appliance's normal performance
