What it is
The Gledhill XB178 is a 16A relay (contactor) used in the control circuit of Gledhill Boilermate A Class and Pulsacoil A Class thermal stores. It switches the higher-current load called for by the appliance controls, isolating the low-voltage switching side from the mains load. It is a serviceable electrical component on the cylinder.
