What it is
The VBS38 is a 16 litre expansion vessel supplied by Grant for use in its Vortex Pro condensing oil boiler range. It absorbs the volume increase of the system water as it heats, limiting pressure rise within the sealed heating circuit. It is listed as an oil boiler spare in the expansion vessel category.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler pressure rises sharply when hot and drops again when cold, beyond normal expansion movement
- Water discharging from the pressure relief valve during heating cycles
- System pressure falls repeatedly and requires regular topping up with no visible leak elsewhere
- Water weeping from, or corrosion and staining around, the vessel connection or shell
- Boiler locking out or cutting out on low pressure shortly after the system has been filled
