What it is
The Vaillant 981157 is a single O-ring supplied as a spare seal for Vaillant heating appliances. It is a moulded rubber ring that sits in a machined groove or recess and compresses when the joint is tightened, forming a watertight barrier at that connection. Rings of this type are found at unions, valve bodies, pump housings and similar joints where a face seal is required.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping or a slow drip from a joint, union or valve body
- Damp staining, corrosion or limescale around the sealing face
- The ring feels hard, flattened or brittle instead of pliable
- Cracks, nicks or a squared-off cross-section visible once removed
- Debris or scale trapped in the groove preventing the ring from seating
Before you order
- Match part number 981157 against the parts list for your appliance
- Compare the internal diameter and cross-section of the old ring with the replacement
- Clean the groove and sealing faces before fitting the new ring
- Check whether the same joint also uses a gasket or washer that needs renewing at the same time
