What it is
The Atkinson TM4172 is a British-manufactured brass insert fitted inside 10mm soft copper pipe before a compression fitting is tightened. It braces the pipe wall from the inside so the olive can't crush it, giving an airtight joint on domestic oil supply lines, and is approved by OFTEC for this use.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Oil weeping or leaking from a compression joint on soft copper pipe
- Pipe visibly crushed or ovalised under a compression olive
- A joint that won't hold tight even after retightening the compression nut
- No insert found fitted when remaking an existing joint
Before you order
- Confirm your pipe is 10mm soft copper, not 8mm or 15mm
- Fit one insert per joint, before the olive is tightened
- Have oil pipe joints made or checked by an OFTEC-registered engineer
