What it is
This is an Incoloy 23 immersion heater supplied with a thermostat copper pocket. It is intended for use in vented immersion heater installations, where the element heats stored water in a cylinder and the pocket houses the control thermostat. Incoloy 23 is the element sheath material, chosen for resistance to the corrosive effects of heated water.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder even though the immersion heater circuit is live
- The consumer unit trips, or the fuse blows, when the immersion heater is switched on
- Visible corrosion, swelling or heavy scale on the element
- Water temperature does not match the thermostat setting, or the cylinder overheats
- The thermostat pocket is damaged, split or no longer grips the thermostat phial correctly
