What it is
A gas pilot thermocouple sold by the heating trade as the direct replacement for the Ariston Compact 400 boiler's pilot assembly. It generates a small voltage from the heat of the pilot flame, holding the flame-failure device open; if the pilot goes out, the voltage drops and gas supply to the burner is cut off.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Pilot light won't stay alight, or takes several attempts to hold in
- Boiler locks out and needs the ignition sequence repeated more often
- The flame-failure device trips as soon as the control knob is released
- Visible corrosion, discolouration or a kinked probe on the existing thermocouple
