What it is
A gas pilot thermocouple with an M10 threaded connector, sold by the trade as a replacement type for the Main Topaz gas fire. It generates a small voltage from pilot flame heat to hold the flame-failure device open, cutting gas supply if the pilot goes out.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Pilot light won't stay alight, or takes several attempts to hold in
- Fire locks out and needs the ignition sequence repeated more often
- The flame-failure device trips as soon as the control knob is released
- Visible corrosion, discolouration or a kinked probe on the existing thermocouple
