What it is
A gas thermocouple with an 8mm-thread connector and a 320mm probe, sold as the Widney TH001-type replacement for older Widney LPG gas fires that were built without a separate pilot-light system. It generates a small voltage from the burner's heat to signal the gas control valve to stay open, and cuts gas supply if the heat is lost.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Burner won't stay alight, or takes several attempts to hold in
- Fire locks out and needs the ignition sequence repeated more often
- The flame-failure device trips as soon as the control knob is released
- Visible corrosion, discolouration or a kinked probe on the existing thermocouple
Before you order
- Match the full part number and probe length printed on the thermocouple you are removing
- Confirm your fire is the older non-pilot Widney design before ordering this TH001-type part
- Isolate the gas supply and have a Gas Safe registered engineer carry out the replacement
