What it is

Signs this part needs replacing
- Pilot light won't stay alight, or goes out as soon as the control knob is released
- The pilot button needs holding in for longer than normal before the flame stays lit
- Visible corrosion, discolouration or a kinked lead on the probe
- Hot water stops firing up even though the pilot is burning correctly
