What it is
A 400mm thermocouple with an M8 tip thread, stocked as a cross-reference for the Ascot Sovereign gas water heater. Ascot was a gas water heater brand founded in 1928, later part of the Glow-worm/Chaffoteaux group.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Pilot light won't stay alight, or goes out as soon as the control knob is released
- The pilot button needs holding in for longer than normal before the flame stays lit
- Visible corrosion, discolouration or a kinked lead on the probe
- Hot water stops firing up even though the pilot is burning correctly
