What it is
A pilot-flame safety thermocouple made to fit a range of Valor gas fires, referenced under Valor part number 0547319 (GC No. 391-765). The thermocouple sits in the pilot flame and generates a small millivolt signal that holds the appliance's gas valve open; if the pilot goes out, the signal drops and the valve closes automatically.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Pilot light won't stay lit, or goes out shortly after you release the control knob
- Main burner won't fire even though the pilot is visibly alight
- Slow or weak response when testing the pilot flame with a multimeter (low millivolt reading)
- Visible scorching, corrosion or a kinked/damaged lead on the existing thermocouple
