What it is
The SWX5503 is an ignition lead assembly manufactured by Glow-worm for use in its domestic gas boilers. The lead carries the high-tension spark from the ignition source to the spark electrode so the burner can be lit on a demand for heat or hot water. It is supplied as a black insulated lead measuring 200mm.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The boiler attempts to fire but the burner does not light, with no spark at the electrode
- Sparking is visible or audible along the length of the lead rather than at the electrode tip
- The insulation is cracked, brittle, scorched or chafed where the lead passes near hot or sharp components
- Ignition is intermittent, with the boiler locking out on some start attempts but not others
- The lead terminal or boot is loose, corroded or no longer grips the electrode
