What it is
An EOGB MZ770S-80 photocell, an 80mm flame-sensing photocell used in oil burner control systems. During start-up it checks the combustion chamber is free of stray light or flame before ignition, then continuously monitors the flame once lit, signalling the control box to lock the burner out if the flame is lost.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Burner locks out on flame failure despite a visibly good flame
- Burner fails to start due to a false stray-light detection
- Photocell body shows scorching, cracking or a damaged lead
- Engineer diagnosis of a weak or failed flame signal during fault-finding

- Work should only be carried out by a competent oil-fired appliance engineer (OFTEC)
