What it is

The Altecnic 0.16 Litre Shock Arrestor is a small pressure vessel used to absorb the pressure spikes caused by water hammer and thermal expansion in domestic water and heating systems. Inside, a flexible rubber membrane or diaphragm divides the vessel into two chambers, with a compressible gas charge on one side cushioning sudden rises in pressure. Fitting one protects pipework, fittings and components from the noise and mechanical damage that repeated pressure surges cause.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Persistent banging or hammering noise from pipework when a tap, valve or appliance inlet closes
  • Knocking or vibration transmitted through pipework and fittings on the system
  • Pressure spikes that recur after the arrestor has been installed for some time
  • Water present where it should not be, indicating a failed diaphragm inside the vessel
  • Loss of the cushioning effect, with the original noise and shock returning to the pipework

Before you order

  • Confirm the existing arrestor's part number and capacity match PV016E before ordering
  • Check the alternative number 2081691 against any listing or catalogue reference you hold
  • Inspect the connection point and any sealing washer or gasket at the same time, as these are commonly disturbed during replacement
  • Isolate and depressurise the system before removing the old arrestor
