What it is
The MPE222 is a Potterton Myson PowerExtra two-port motorised zone valve, 22mm, used to control water circulation in a primary hot water or central heating circuit. It is power-to-open with a spring return to the closed position, and is not directionally sensitive, so it may be fitted with flow through either port.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Valve fails to open, leaving no heating or hot water to that circuit
- Valve fails to close, causing heating or hot water to run when not called for
- Neon indicator does not light when powered
- Motor buzzes or overheats without moving the valve

- Isolate electrical supply and drain down the system before removal
- Do not position the valve so it isolates the boiler from the open vent or cold feed pipework
