Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder with the immersion switched on and power confirmed at the isolator
- The element trips the RCD or MCB as soon as it is energised
- Continuity across the element terminals reads open circuit
- Corrosion, blistering or water weeping around the element head
- The cylinder heats slowly or only partially, pointing to a scaled or failing element
