What it is
The TPR15 is a 10 bar temperature and pressure relief valve from Popular Cylinder, supplied with a 3/4" bush for the cylinder tapping. It is fitted to unvented hot water cylinders and discharges water if the stored pressure or temperature rises above its set limits, protecting the cylinder and its controls from over-pressurisation. The valve carries 15mm and 1/2" connections.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water passing continuously from the valve, or a steady drip at the tundish, when the cylinder is at normal pressure
- Water discharging only during heat-up, indicating the valve is lifting on temperature rather than reseating
- The valve failing to reseat after manual testing, leaving it open
- Scale or debris visible around the valve seat or outlet, preventing a clean seal
- Corrosion or mineral build-up on the valve body and connections
