What it is
The FIDA TRANSFORMER is an Elco ignition transformer (2P) supplied under the Firebird brand for Firebird oil-fired burners. It generates the high-voltage spark across the burner electrodes to ignite the kerosene or light oil air/fuel mixture at start-up. It is a service part for the FB 2 K and FB 4 R LN low NOx burner ranges.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Burner fires but fails to ignite, leading to lockout on start-up
- No spark visible at the electrodes when the burner is energised
- Intermittent lockouts that clear on reset but recur
- Visible arcing, tracking or a cracked transformer body
- Burning smell or scorch marks around the transformer
Before you order
- Confirm the burner model on the data plate against the fit list above
- Check the ignition leads and electrode condition before assuming the transformer is at fault
- Confirm the transformer terminal arrangement matches the one fitted
- Isolate the electrical supply before removing or refitting the burner cover
