What it is

The Salus Controls DT600 is a programmable room thermostat intended for wall mounting, powered by two AA batteries and used to switch heating on demand. It applies a TPI (Time Proportional and Integral) control algorithm to hold the set temperature steadily rather than cycling the boiler in short bursts. The output is volt free and the unit supports OpenTherm, so it can be wired to boilers that accept a modulating OpenTherm signal as well as to conventional on/off heating circuits.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler does not fire when there is a call for heat, or the heating stays on when the programme is set to off.
  • The LCD is blank, faded or shows incomplete segments even with fresh batteries fitted.
  • Buttons do not respond, or the programme and clock settings reset repeatedly.
  • Room temperature readings drift noticeably from a known accurate thermometer, causing the heating to run hot or cold.
  • Corrosion or battery leakage is visible in the battery compartment or on the terminals.

Before you order

  • Note the part number on the existing thermostat and confirm whether the replacement is DT600 or the alternative number 5180127.
  • Check the boiler's control connections: the DT600 gives a volt-free output and also supports OpenTherm, so confirm which wiring method the installation uses.
  • Inspect the wall plate and wiring for damage before fitting, and confirm the mounting centres suit the existing position.
  • Have two AA batteries ready, as the thermostat is battery powered rather than mains fed.
