What it is

The Riello RDB 4.5uF motor capacitor is a run capacitor used on Riello RDB oil burners. It supplies the phase shift the burner motor needs to start and then run smoothly, so a failed capacitor usually shows up as a motor that hums, stalls or refuses to spin up.

This capacitor is the EOGB equivalent for RDB burners that use a 4.5uF capacitor. It is supplied complete with its cap and has two small spade terminals, and it mounts to the burner on a threaded stud secured with a nut.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The burner motor hums but does not turn over, and the burner locks out.
  • The motor is slow or erratic to start, particularly from cold.
  • The capacitor body is swollen, split or weeping electrolyte.
  • The burner runs intermittently, cutting out shortly after start-up.
  • Repeated lockouts that clear after the motor is helped to spin.

Before you order

  • Check the capacitance printed on the existing capacitor and match it to 4.5uF.
  • Confirm the terminal arrangement is two small spades and that the mounting is a threaded stud with a nut.
  • Note the burner model and any serial or build details so the correct RDB variant is identified.
  • If the burner has not been serviced recently, check the motor and pump at the same time as the capacitor.
