What it is

The BOS02401 is a non-ASD thermocouple manufactured by Johnson & Starley. It sits in the pilot assembly of the appliance and generates the small voltage that holds the gas valve open while the pilot flame is lit. It is used across the Johnson & Starley Eljan and Hijan appliance families.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The pilot flame goes out as soon as the control knob is released.
  • The pilot will not stay lit long enough to bring the main burner on.
  • The pilot flame is weak, unstable or discoloured, and the appliance keeps locking out.
  • Repeated attempts to light the pilot are needed before the burner stays on.
  • The appliance shuts down intermittently during use with the pilot extinguishing.

  • Check that the existing pilot assembly is the non-ASD type, as this thermocouple is not intended for ASD pilots.
