What it is
A heat exchanger clean out gasket manufactured by Johnson & Starley. It seals the clean out access cover on the heat exchanger of Hispec J40 and Ja33/43 warm air units, preventing flue gases and combustion products escaping at the joint. The gasket is a service item and is replaced whenever the clean out cover is disturbed.

- Water or condensate staining around the heat exchanger clean out cover
- The gasket is hardened, brittle or breaking up when the cover is removed
- Combustion readings drifting or flue gas smell at the clean out joint
- Visible sooting or staining at the cover face
- The gasket is compressed flat and no longer seals on reassembly
