What it is

The Johnson & Starley BOS00036 is a SIT thermocouple supplied as a non-ASD type. It is fitted to Johnson & Starley gas-fired warm air units and their associated water heaters, where it holds the pilot flame and proves flame presence to the gas control. Once the pilot is established, the thermocouple generates the millivolt signal that keeps the pilot and main burner circuit open.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The pilot will not stay lit once the gas control knob is released.
  • The pilot flame lights but extinguishes shortly afterwards.
  • The appliance shuts down or locks out intermittently during operation.
  • The pilot has to be relit repeatedly between cycles.
  • The pilot flame appears weak or unstable at the thermocouple tip.

Before you order

  • Confirm your appliance model against the fit list above before ordering.
  • Check whether your pilot assembly is the non-ASD type, as this thermocouple is the non-ASD specification.
  • Compare the thermocouple connection and lead against the part currently fitted to the pilot assembly.
  • If the pilot assembly is being replaced as a whole, confirm whether a complete assembly is required instead.
