What it is
The Baxi 5106287 is a 12 litre expansion vessel manufactured by Baxi for use in its heating appliances. It is fitted on the heating circuit and takes up the increase in water volume as the system heats, keeping the operating pressure within a stable band. An internal diaphragm separates the water side from a pre-charged air side, so the vessel absorbs expansion without the pressure relief valve having to discharge.
Signs this part needs replacing
- System pressure rises sharply as the appliance heats and falls back again once it cools.
- The pressure relief valve discharges, or water continues to run from the discharge pipe.
- The filling loop has to be used regularly to bring the appliance back up to pressure.
- Water escapes from the air valve on the vessel when the pre-charge is checked.
- The pressure gauge reads high while the appliance is cold.
