What it is
The Protech anode with gasket is a cylinder protection component manufactured by Ariston for its NUOS EVO range of hot water cylinders. The anode is a sacrificial element that corrodes in preference to the cylinder wall, limiting the effect of electrolytic action on the steel. The supplied gasket seals the anode connection at the cylinder.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The anode has been in service for an extended period and is visibly consumed or heavily pitted
- The anode core wire is exposed or the anode has reduced to little more than the core
- Discoloured or metallic-tasting hot water drawn from the cylinder
- A sulphur or rotten-egg odour in the hot water supply
- The gasket at the anode connection is weeping or shows signs of perishing
