What it is
The Halstead 988260 is a fan assembly for Halstead Best and Wickes LWCI gas boilers. It draws combustion products through the heat exchanger and pushes them out to the flue, and it also proves airflow to the boiler's safety interlock. A failed fan will normally stop the appliance from firing.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Boiler locks out or fails to fire, with the fan proving sequence not completing
- Grinding, rumbling or scraping noise from the fan housing on start-up
- Fan runs intermittently or not at all when the boiler is called for heat
- Visible damage, corrosion or debris build-up on the fan impeller or housing
- Repeated lockouts after reset, pointing to a failing fan motor or impeller
Before you order
- Confirm your boiler model against the fit list above
- Check whether your appliance falls in the FROM or TO serial range, as both are listed
- Verify the existing part number 988260 on the fan or in the manufacturer's parts list
- Fan replacement involves working on the combustion circuit — this should be carried out by a competent heating engineer
