What it is
The Vaillant 981232 is a cellular rubber seal, listed in the packing ring and gasket group. It is used on Vaillant ecoTEC Plus, ecoTEC Pro and ecoTEC Exclusive gas boilers, where it seals a joint within the appliance. The cellular rubber construction allows the seal to compress and take up surface irregularity at the mating faces.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Visible water or residue weeping from the joint the seal sits in
- The seal is cracked, split or perished
- The rubber has hardened or flattened and no longer springs back
- The seal is deformed or has taken a permanent set
- Traces of corrosion or staining around the mating faces
Before you order
- Confirm your appliance model and variant against the fitment list above
- Check the part number on the existing seal or in the manufacturer's parts list
- Inspect the mating faces for pitting, scale or damage before refitting
- Check whether any other seals on the same joint also need renewing

Fitment listings are a guide, not a guarantee. Plant-room assemblies get modified on site more often than not. Send us the GC number off the data badge and a photo of the existing valve and we will confirm before anything is dispatched.
