What it is

The Ariston 969046 is a temperature and pressure relief valve rated at 7 bar with a 1/2 inch connection. It is fitted to Ariston unvented hot water cylinders, where it opens and discharges water if the stored water temperature or the cylinder pressure rises beyond safe limits. It works as part of the cylinder's safety group alongside the expansion vessel and pressure reducing valve.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Water passing continuously from the tundish or valve outlet with no heat source running
  • Dripping or weeping from the valve body or outlet while the cylinder sits at normal temperature
  • The valve fails to reseat after being operated manually
  • Scale or debris around the valve seat causing it to pass water
  • Cylinder pressure or temperature climbing above normal operating limits

Before you order

  • Confirm the cylinder model and serial number against the compatibility information for this valve.
  • Check that the rating on the existing valve matches 7 bar before ordering a replacement.
  • Inspect the sealing washer or gasket at the valve connection and renew it if it is compressed or damaged.
  • This is not a gas-carrying component; work on unvented cylinders should be carried out by a competent person.
