What it is

The Baxi 95606989 is an upper immersion heater supplied as a direct replacement for the titanium-element immersion fitted to a range of Baxi cylinders and associated appliances. It sits in the upper boss of the cylinder and provides the primary or secondary source of domestic hot water heating where the cylinder is electrically heated.

As part of the electronics and controls group of Baxi spares, the heater is a serviceable item: the element, its thermostat and its sealing face are all subject to scale, heat cycling and electrical wear over the life of the cylinder.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • No hot water from the cylinder with the immersion switched on and the programmer calling
  • The immersion circuit breaker or RCD trips when the heater is energised
  • Continuity or resistance test across the element terminals reads open circuit
  • Heavy scale or corrosion around the element boss, with weeping at the joint
  • Thermostat fails to cut out, or the cylinder overheats on the immersion only

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list before ordering, as the upper and lower immersion positions are not interchangeable
  • Check the existing heater against previous number 95606907, which this part replaces on some builds
  • Have a suitable immersion gasket or sealing washer to hand, as the joint is disturbed when the heater is removed
  • Isolate the electrical supply to the immersion circuit and drain the cylinder before removal
