What it is

The Baxi 95606988 is an immersion heater with a titanium element, supplied as a lower-mounted unit for direct hot water cylinders. It is a Baxi spare and belongs to the electronics and controls group of components. Its job is to heat the stored water in the cylinder electrically, independently of the boiler, so the cylinder can still deliver hot water when the central heating circuit is off.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • No hot water from the cylinder when the immersion is switched on, with the boiler circuit off.
  • The immersion circuit breaker or RCD trips as soon as the heater is energised.
  • Continuity test across the element terminals reads open circuit.
  • The element is heavily scaled or corroded, so it draws current but heats the water slowly.
  • The cylinder thermostat calls for heat but the water stays cold, pointing to a failed element rather than the control.

Before you order

  • Confirm the cylinder model and serial number against the compatibility list, as Assure direct cylinders use different immersion positions.
  • Check the previous part number 95606908 if you are working from older Baxi documentation or an existing label on the cylinder.
  • Inspect the cylinder boss and sealing face before fitting, and have a suitable sealing washer or gasket to hand if the old one is disturbed.
  • Isolate the electrical supply to the immersion circuit and drain the cylinder before removing the old heater.
