What it is
The ignition transformer is a Worcester Bosch component that generates the high-voltage supply used to strike the ignition spark at the burner. It is fitted to appliances in the Greenstar 1000 series and works with the boiler's ignition electrode to light the gas on a demand for heat. The part is identified by Worcester Bosch part number 8738902779.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The boiler attempts to fire but no spark is produced at the burner.
- Repeated ignition attempts followed by a lockout or fault code.
- The appliance fails to light on a demand for heat or hot water.
- Visible damage, cracking or burnt marks around the transformer body.
Before you order
- Confirm the appliance model against the fit list above before ordering.
- Check the existing transformer and its connections for damage, moisture or loose wiring.
- Verify the ignition electrode and its lead are sound, as a fault there can mimic a transformer failure.
- Isolate the boiler from the electrical supply before carrying out any work.
