What it is

The Worcester Bosch temperature limit sensor is a thermistor used to monitor water temperature inside the appliance. Its resistance rises as it cools and falls as it warms, and the printed circuit board reads that changing resistance to decide whether more or less heat is needed. It is a Worcester Bosch spare supplied under part number 87229638580 and is common to a large number of Greenstar and i-series gas boilers.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • The boiler fails to fire or locks out on an overheat or temperature-related fault code.
  • Domestic hot water temperature swings between hot and cold instead of holding steady.
  • The appliance short-cycles, firing and shutting down more often than normal.
  • Heating output drops or the boiler runs on when there is no demand.
  • Intermittent faults that clear when the sensor connector is disturbed.

Before you order

  • Check the appliance GC number and model against the compatibility list, as this sensor is used across a wide range of Worcester Bosch boilers.
  • Compare the numbers on the existing sensor and the appliance data badge with the part number and alternative numbers listed here.
