What it is
The 87161423240 is Worcester's pilot thermocouple, a Honeywell Q309A2747, fitted to the pilot assembly on older Worcester combi boilers. It generates a small voltage when heated by the pilot flame, which holds the gas valve open; if the pilot goes out, the voltage drops and the valve closes for safety.
