What it is
The Worcester Bosch 87161423020 is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor used on the domestic hot water circuit of Worcester Bosch appliances. As the water temperature rises, the resistance of the thermistor falls, and the electronic control reads that changing resistance to judge whether the domestic hot water needs more or less heat. It is a direct replacement sensor for the DHW side of the appliance.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Domestic hot water runs hot and cold instead of holding a steady temperature
- No hot water demand is registered, so the appliance does not fire for DHW
- The appliance locks out or shows a fault code relating to the DHW sensor
- Resistance readings from the thermistor fall outside the expected curve for the water temperature
- Intermittent DHW operation that clears when the sensor or its plug is disturbed
