What it is
The Worcester Bosch rope seal, part 87161409030, is a 13 mm diameter Thermo-seal Type 4 rope gasket that sits at the access lid on top of the heat exchanger. It compresses between the lid and the heat exchanger face to form a tight, airtight joint, keeping combustion products contained at that connection. It is a Worcester Bosch spare intended for the Boilerhouse and Danesmoor oil-fired appliance families.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The rope is flattened, hardened or visibly frayed where it seats on the lid face
- Soot or combustion staining around the heat exchanger access lid
- Weeping or damp traces at the lid joint after the boiler has run
- A flue gas smell or draught at the lid once it is refitted
- The seal crumbles or breaks apart when the lid is lifted during a service
