What it is

The Worcester Bosch 87161085080 is a baffle assembly for the manufacturer's oil-fired condensing boiler range. The baffles sit inside the heat exchanger flueways, where they interrupt the flow of hot combustion gases and hold them against the heat transfer surfaces for longer, so more of the available heat reaches the water circuit rather than escaping up the flue. Because they operate directly in the flue gas path, they are a serviceable item and are routinely inspected when the appliance is cleaned and commissioned.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Flue gas temperature readings at the test point are higher than expected for the appliance
  • Soot, black deposits or heavy carbon build-up on the baffle plates and in the flueways
  • Visible corrosion, scaling, cracking or distortion of the baffle plates
  • Increased fuel consumption with no change in usage, settings or controls
  • Rattling or vibration from the heat exchanger area during firing

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the compatibility list, as baffle arrangements differ between the Danesmoor and Heatslave variants.
  • Cross-reference the alternative part number 1021255 when ordering against older stock lists or paperwork.
  • Baffles are normally removed, cleaned and refitted during an annual service, so check their condition before ordering replacements.
  • Any work inside the combustion chamber or flueways should be carried out by a competent heating engineer.
