What it is
The Worcester Bosch 87161078730 is a domestic hot water (DHW) thermostat used on the CAM 5 Combi range of gas combination boilers. It sits on the hot water circuit and reports the water temperature back to the boiler's control board, which uses that reading to modulate burner output and hold the tap water at the temperature set on the control panel. A failed or drifting thermostat leaves the board without a reliable DHW temperature signal, so hot water control becomes erratic or stops altogether.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water, or hot water that runs cold after a short draw-off
- Domestic hot water temperature that swings between cold and scalding regardless of the setting
- Boiler failing to fire or cutting out on a hot water demand while central heating still works
- DHW temperature readings on the display that do not match the water at the tap
- Repeated lockouts or fault codes logged during hot water operation
Before you order
- Confirm the model and serial number on the boiler data badge match one of the CAM 5 Combi variants listed above
- Check the number on the existing thermostat against 87161078730, 1021121 or EL00236 before ordering
