What it is
The Ariston 816557 is a 3kW, 240V heating element used in Ariston Protech hot water cylinders. It heats the stored water in the cylinder, operating under the control of the cylinder's thermostat. It is a service part for the Protech range of direct and indirect cylinders.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder despite the programmer and thermostat calling for heat
- The element trips the RCD or circuit breaker when the cylinder is powered
- Water is only lukewarm, or the cylinder takes far longer than normal to recover
- Continuity or resistance testing across the element terminals shows an open circuit
- Visible scale, corrosion or blistering on the element body
