What it is
This is a 3000W immersion-style heating element rated at 230V, manufactured by Ariston for its Europrisma range of unvented hot water cylinders. The element sits inside the cylinder and heats the stored water to the temperature set on the appliance's thermostat. It is the part that fails when a cylinder stops producing hot water or trips the supply.
Signs this part needs replacing
- No hot water from the cylinder even though the unit is powered and the thermostat is calling for heat
- The element trips the circuit breaker or RCD when the cylinder is switched on
- Continuity test across the element terminals reads open circuit
- Visible blistering, corrosion or a split in the element sheath once removed
- Water weeping from the element boss or gasket area
