What it is

The Glow-worm 801722 is a thermistor thermometric sensor supplied for Glow-worm CXI, HXI and SXI boiler ranges. It is a temperature-sensing component that feeds a resistance signal back to the boiler's control board, letting the appliance read flow or stored water temperature and regulate firing accordingly. Because the board relies on this signal to modulate output and to run its safety checks, a drifting or failed sensor affects how the boiler behaves long before any mechanical fault appears.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Boiler locks out or fails to fire, with a temperature-related fault code logged on the display
  • Heating or hot water temperature reads noticeably high, low or erratic compared with the set point
  • Radiators or hot water run hot then cold as the boiler short-cycles instead of modulating smoothly
  • Intermittent operation that clears on reset and returns once the appliance warms up
  • Resistance reading at the sensor plug falls outside the expected curve for the measured temperature

Before you order

  • Confirm the model and GC number on the appliance data badge match the CXI, HXI or SXI range this sensor is listed for
  • Check the existing sensor's part number and connector type against 801722 before removing it
  • Inspect the sensor pocket and any sealing washer or O-ring at the same time, as these are often disturbed during removal
