What it is
The Viessmann 7837053 is an outdoor NTC temperature sensor, listed by Viessmann as SENSOR 1 (OUTDOOR, NTC). It is a thermistor that reports outside air temperature to the boiler's control, allowing the appliance to regulate flow temperature in line with weather compensation. It is used across a number of Vitodens and Vitocrossal boiler families.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The boiler displays an outdoor sensor fault or error code.
- The outdoor temperature shown on the controls is fixed, erratic or clearly wrong for the conditions.
- Weather compensation behaves incorrectly — flow temperature stays high in mild weather or drops in cold weather.
- Heating output does not respond to changes in outside temperature despite a correct compensating curve.
- Resistance readings across the sensor do not track temperature as expected when tested.
Before you order
- Confirm the part number on the existing sensor or in the appliance documentation matches 7837053.
- Check the appliance model and serial number against the fit list above before ordering.
- Inspect the sensor lead and connections for damage, as a faulty cable can produce the same symptoms as a failed sensor.
- Confirm the sensor's outdoor mounting position is accessible for removal and refitting.
