What it is
The Viessmann magnesium anode D33 250/220 is a sacrificial cylinder anode supplied under manufacturer part number 7831784. It is fitted to the domestic hot water cylinder of Vitodens 222-F storage combi appliances, where it corrodes preferentially to protect the cylinder shell from electrolytic attack. Once the anode material is consumed, the cylinder itself becomes the sacrificial element, so periodic inspection and replacement is part of cylinder maintenance.
Signs this part needs replacing
- The anode is visibly consumed, heavily pitted or reduced in section when inspected
- Hot water is discoloured or has a metallic taste
- Rust staining or dark sediment appears at hot water outlets
- Rumbling or knocking from the cylinder as corrosion and scale accumulate
- Weeping or corrosion is found around the cylinder anode connection
Before you order
- Confirm the appliance model and serial number against the fit list above
- Check the existing anode's designation matches D33 250/220
- Confirm there is sufficient clearance above the cylinder to withdraw and refit the anode
- Check the cylinder connection and sealing arrangement before removal
