What it is
The air bleed valve, also listed as an air vent, is a Viessmann component with a G3/8 threaded connection. It is fitted to Vitodens gas boilers, where it automatically releases air that collects in the heating circuit. Its function is to prevent air locks and the poor circulation and noise that follow from them.
Signs this part needs replacing
- Water weeping or dripping from the valve body or its threaded connection
- Persistent air noise or gurgling in the boiler and radiators after venting
- The valve no longer releases air when the system is refilled or bled
- Corrosion or scale build-up around the vent, restricting its operation
- Cold spots or reduced flow in the heating circuit linked to trapped air
