What it is

The Buderus Sealing Cover, part number 78174, is a sealing component used on Buderus 500 series gas boilers. It forms part of the boiler's sealing arrangement, where it closes off and seals the joint it is fitted to. Buderus lists this item within its range of O-rings, washers and gaskets for gas boiler spares.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Visible moisture or weeping at the joint the cover seals
  • Staining, crusting or corrosion around the sealing face
  • The cover is hardened, flattened, cracked or distorted
  • The cover has been disturbed or reused during other work on the boiler
  • A smell of combustion products or a change in boiler operation where the seal is part of a gas-carrying joint

Before you order

  • Confirm the boiler model against the fitment list above before ordering
  • Check the existing cover and its seating face for damage before fitting a new one
  • Have the boiler isolated and, where required, the gas supply safely shut down before work begins
  • Retain the part number 78174 for reference when contacting the manufacturer or a heating engineer
