What it is

The Anode-Mag Hex Head is a magnesium sacrificial anode supplied by Andrews Water Heaters under part number 7721567. It is fitted inside the appliance's hot water cylinder, where the magnesium core corrodes preferentially to protect the steel vessel from attack. The hex head allows the anode to be removed and refitted with a standard spanner during servicing.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Rumbling, popping or gurgling noises from the cylinder as the anode breaks down
  • Hot water with a metallic taste or a discoloured, rusty appearance
  • A sulphur or rotten-egg smell in the hot water supply
  • Visible heavy corrosion, pitting or significant loss of material on the anode when inspected
  • Rust staining around the anode boss or cylinder fittings
