What it is

The Baxi 7216605 is a plate heat exchanger rated at 24kW, manufactured by Baxi for use in the Main Eco Combi range of combination boilers. It sits in the domestic hot water circuit, where the primary heating water passes across a stack of stainless steel plates and transfers its heat to the incoming mains cold water. Because the two circuits are separated only by thin plates, the unit delivers a high heat transfer rate in a compact body, which is what allows a combi to produce hot water on demand without a storage cylinder.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Domestic hot water runs hot and cold, or the temperature swings noticeably at the tap while the boiler is firing.
  • Hot water output is weak or the flow rate drops away as the tap is opened further.
  • The boiler fires and reaches temperature quickly on hot water demand, then cycles or cuts out.
  • Water weeps from the plate stack, or staining and scale deposits are visible around the plate edges and connections.
  • Sludge or scale has been found elsewhere in the system, which commonly blocks the narrow waterways between the plates.

Before you order

  • Confirm the appliance GC number and model against the compatibility list, as the same boiler name can cover more than one build.
  • Check the alternative part number 1132087 against the number on the component being removed.
  • Inspect the sealing gaskets and connections on removal and order replacements if they are perished or deformed.
  • This part is fitted to a gas appliance; installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
