What it is

The Baxi domestic hot water NTC sensor, part number 720777001, is a negative temperature coefficient thermistor that monitors the temperature of the domestic hot water circuit. Its resistance falls as temperature rises, and the printed circuit board passes a small current through it to read that change and control the appliance accordingly. It is a replacement component for Baxi ErP Combi appliances.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Domestic hot water runs hot then cold, or the outlet temperature drifts without the tap being adjusted
  • The appliance does not recognise a hot water demand and fails to fire for DHW
  • A fault code or lockout linked to the domestic hot water sensor appears on the display
  • A resistance reading taken across the sensor falls outside the expected value for the measured water temperature
  • Hot water production becomes intermittent, with the boiler cutting in and out during a draw-off
