What it is

The Ariston 65105593 is a magnesium sacrificial anode for Aquabravo ITI and ITD hot water cylinders in the 80 to 305 litre range. It is a consumable corrosion-protection component: the magnesium rod is deliberately the least noble metal in the assembly, so it corrodes in preference to the steel cylinder shell. Once the anode has been consumed, the cylinder itself becomes the sacrificial material.

Signs this part needs replacing

  • Hot water drawn from the cylinder has a metallic taste or an unusual odour
  • Rumbling, popping or knocking noises from the cylinder during heat-up
  • Rust-coloured staining or discoloured water at the hot outlets
  • The anode is found heavily pitted, flaking or reduced to a thin core during a service inspection
  • Water weeping from the anode boss or around its thread

Before you order

  • Confirm the cylinder model and its litre capacity, as the anode is listed for Aquabravo ITI and ITD units between 80 and 305 litres
  • Check the anode boss thread and the dimensions of the anode being removed against the 16 mm diameter, 160 mm length and M6 thread quoted here
  • Isolate the cylinder, drain it down and depressurise it before attempting to remove the old anode
  • Have a suitable sealing washer or thread sealant ready for refitting the replacement anode
